22 - 24 October 2009 : Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia
JAKARTA DECLARATION
National and International Child Welfare organizations from all
regions of the world convened in the City of Jakarta, Republic of
Indonesia, 22 - 24 October 2009, on the theme "Towards
a safer and better world by realizing the rights of the Child"
at the International Forum for Child Welfare's WorldForum'2009,
do hereby make the following Declaration:
CHILDREN’S PARTICIPATION
We pledge to all the children of the world that our actions will
not only be for them but with them - that they are our partners
in the development process.
FULLY COMMIT THEMSELVES TO THE UN CONVENTION
ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
We urge all governments that have not ratified the Convention
on the Rights of the Child to expedite its ratification in their
countries; and even more important that they fully implement its
provisions; by incorporating it in their child welfare policies
and legislation.
GOVERNMENTS AGENDAS FOR CHILDREN
We ask the leaders of the world's governments to keep always at
the forefront of their political, economic and social agendas
the pressing needs of children and young people in pursuance of
a safer and better world for them.
MILLENIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS
We urge governments to review legal codes, policies and activities
in the light of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals
7 and 8; and to take the necessary steps that will increase children's
protection and participation in all decisions that affect their
present situation as well as their future.
MEDIA
We call upon the media to advocate for the wellbeing of the world’s
children.
CHILDREN’S RIGHTS
We ask all citizens of the world to contribute individually and
through community and professional organizations, to learn about,
defend and promote children's rights.
PRESERVING FAMILIES
We believe that it is in the family where a child is best nurtured
and cared for; and therefore governments and communities must
exert all efforts to preserve the stability of families.
REGIONAL INITIATIVES
We urge the ASEAN Child Rights Integrated Movement to intensify
its efforts to protect children and youth from all forms of harm;
as well as undertake specific actions aimed at ensuring the positive
development of children to their maximum potential.
