ECOSOC
NGO Forum - 4 April, New York
The ECOSOC NGO Forum “The Role of Civil
Society in Promoting Sustainable Development and the New International
Aid Architecture”will take
place on April 4, 2008 in the ECOSOC Chambers, United Nations
Headquarters in New York, from 3-6 PM. The forum serves as a preparatory event for the 2008 High-Level
Segment of ECOSOC, and is an excellent platform to share your
best practices and success stories. Success stories will also
be published on the AMR

session Human Rights Council / Universal Periodic Review- 7-18
April 2008, Geneva
The HRC Secretariat just circulated the revised timetable of the Interactive dialogues
and adoption of the report for the 16 countries
to be reviewed during the 1st session of the HRC Working
Group on UPR: the revised scheduled can be downloaded here.
NGOs can attend the proceedings of the interactive dialogue. More

Spring
Meeting of ECOSOC with the BWIs, WTO and UNCTAD, 14 April, New
York
The registration deadline for the Spring Meeting of ECOSOC with BWIs,
WTO and UNCTAD expires on 6 April 2008. This
year’s roundtables will focus on 1) New initiatives on financing for
development; 2) Supporting development efforts and enhancing the
role of middle-income countries, including in the area of trade
and 3) Supporting development efforts of the least developed countries,
including through trade capacity-building. There will be three
slots designated for NGOs at each one of these three roundtables.
9 nominations for NGO participants would be therefore requested.
In making your selection please take into account the UN criteria
of expertise, gender and geographical balance. It would be helpful
to have at least one alternate for each nominee in case someone
drops out. Following the practice of previous years, the final
decision on the selection of the nominees will be with the President
of ECOSOC. See the application form

UNCTAD XII: 17-19 April, Accra, Ghana

here. The Civil Society Forum to take place 17-19 April, will
provide an open space for NGOs /CSOs to hold events and to facilitate the issue
of the CS statement to be delivered at the opening
plenary of the main conference. Hosted by the Third World Network
(TWN)-Africa the secretariat for the organization of the civil
society forum is also working with UNCTAD on civil society participation

Substantive
session of the Preparatory Committee on the Durban Review Conference,
21 April – 2 May 2008, Geneva
The Durban Review Conference will hold the 2nd
session of its Preparatory Committee on 21 April – 2 May
2008 and begin consideration of substantive issues. All NGOs in
Consultative Status with ECOSOC can participate in the Durban
Review Process, as well as NGOs accredited to the Durban Conference
in 2001 if they have not received any contrary information from
the PrepCom Secretariat. Other NGOs willing to request accreditation
to the Durban Review Conference process should fill in the questionnaire for accreditation.
