New Dates of CONGO ’s Board Meeting and Launch of CONGO ’s Asia Regional Committee 23 -- 25 February 2009(originally scheduled for 14, 15 and 16 December 2008), Pathumthani, Thailand

After consultation with CONGO Board members, Liberato C. Bautista, CONGO President, announced that CONGO's next Board meeting and the launch of CONGO's Asia Regional Committee would take place from 23 to 25 February 2009 in Pathumthani, Thailand. The meeting had originally been scheduled to take place on the premises of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Thailand on 14 and 15 December 2008, followed by the launch of CONGO's Asia Regional Committee on 16 December 2008.With the approval of CONGO's Board, the forthcoming Board meeting will encompass the postponed second meeting of 2008 and the first meeting of 2009. The agenda of the postponed meeting and other agenda items recently brought to our attention will be provided in a consolidated outline.

CONGO Civil Society Development Forum 2009 - Implementing the Internationally Agreed Goals and Commitments in regard to Global Public Health, 2- 4 July 2009, Geneva

CONGO* is pleased to announce that its Civil Society Development Forum (CSDF) 2009 is scheduled from 2 to 4 July 2009 in Geneva. It will be held back-to-back with ECOSOC's High-Level Segment (6 -- 10 July 2009), which will focus in 2009 on the theme "Implementing the Internationally Agreed Goals and Commitments in regard to Global Public Health".

Reconvening of the Second Part of the 6^th Session of the Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action -- One-Day Meeting, 18 December 2008, Geneva.A Note Verbale from the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights advised that the second part of the 6^th Session of the "Intergovernmental Working Group on the Effective Implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action" will take place on 18 December 2008 at 10:00 Hours in Conference Room XXI at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

   

Draft Guiding Principles on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights: The Rights of the Poor -- Seminar, 27 -- 28 January 2009, Geneva

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights announced that a seminar on "Draft Guiding Principles on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights: The Rights of the Poor" will take place from 27 to 28 January 2009 in the Conference Room First Floor at Palais Wilson in Geneva.

Integrated Civil Society Organization System -- New UN/DESA Civil Society Participation Database

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA) launched a new online civil society participation database entitled "Integrated Civil Society Organization System". It provides the possibility of "online registration for CSOs, facilitates the application procedure for consultative status with ECOSOC and assists accredited NGOs in submitting quadrennial reports in designating representatives to the UN".The database contains information on more than 12'000 organisations and their activities, meeting participation and accreditation status in the fields of sustainable and social development, advancement of women, financing for development, forest and public administration.

Growing together: Youth and the Work of the United Nations -- UN/DESA Publications available online

A new publication was issued by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), entitled "Growing together: Youth and the Work of the United Nations". This document provides an assessment of how effectively the UN system is responding to development challenges and attempts to help identify any existing gaps in the present approach by the UN.Along with more information about the youth agenda of the UN, the aforementioned publication can be found here.
